Oh Mary
This poem honors Mary, the Mother of God, through the lens of Ethiopian Orthodox tradition, celebrating her as Kidist Mariam (Holy Mary), her perpetual virginity, her role as Theotokos, and her intercessory power. It reflects the deep veneration found in Ethiopian Orthodox spirituality, where Mary is seen as the Queen of Heaven and a compassionate advocate for humanity.

Oh Mary
Oh Mary, Kidist Mariam, pure and bright,
Bearer of the Light that conquered night, In Axum's ancient faith, your name we sing, Theotokos, Mother of our King.
Wrapped in prayers of incense rising high,
Your icon gazes with a gentle eye, Through fasting days and liturgies so long, You stand beside us, steadfast, ever strong.
Virgin before, during, and after birth,
You brought the Savior to our weary earth, In Ge'ez hymns, your praises echo still, "Weddase Mariam"—bending to God's will.
Queen of Heaven, crowned in golden light,
Intercede for us through day and night, In Tewahedo's faith, you hold your place, Channel of mercy, vessel of grace.
Oh Mary, hear our supplications rise,
Like frankincense ascending to the skies, In every church, in every sacred space, We seek your son through your embracing grace.
